History

Gillette Cemetery began circa 1850’s on property owned by Daniel and Molcy Gillett. The property began as a family burying ground. However, the Gillett family opened the grounds up to the families in the surrounding areas. As a result, many members of the earliest settlers of Manatee County, along with their descendants, can be found interred within the grounds of Gillette Cemetery. Through the years, generous donations of land have been provided by the Armstrong, Richards, and Hale families to extend the cemetery to the size you see today. Gillette Cemetery is a historical cemetery which still operates today, almost 170 years since its beginning. In the spirit of Daniel Gillett, the cemetery is open to the surrounding community for burial space plot and cremation columbarium reservation.
